We all know the Midnight Club series is something special. If you're into cars, that is. And who isn't? You get to see them in action, go fast and hang out with friends. Redline synthesis master mixes up the music for this game, so it sounds like your in a nightclub when you want to listen to some tunes while cruising around town. Or through the streets of Tokyo. Midnight Club LA is a Racing game, developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, which was released in 2010. It's the successor to Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition, as it is also a free-roaming racing game. The game features various single-player and multiplayer modes, such as an updated story mode called "The World Tour" and "Arcade" mode. You can choose from thirteen different cars (from other makers like BMW and GM). You can even throw some nitrous oxide into the mix for that extra adrenaline rush that you need from time to time. The environment is pretty well done, but feels a little bit plain sometimes. A lot of little things that aren't really noticeable become very annoying while you're racing. For example, the game doesn't let you see where your opponents are when you're behind them, which can make for some very frustrating situations. The game is pretty good, not perfect, but still good. It's free roaming and there's cars to rent or buy (buy is the best option) and races to beat (definitely not an easy task). The controls aren't completely responsive either, but they get the job done. Well. They get it done if your on PC with a steering wheel setup. On console controls it's more difficult, though some people just suck at using the console controller. However, the game isn't perfect. The soundtrack for this game is fine, but the fact that you can't listen to your own music while playing is annoying. A lot of people who are into racing games are into music as well, so listening to something else while driving is very important. But Rockstar Games didn't do their job here either. And what's up with all of the Nicki Minaj songs? There are only three of them in the entire game! Other than that, everything is pretty much fine. IGN gives it a 9.3. It's just below Grand Theft Auto IV in terms of score on IGN's scale (GTA IV got a 9.5). PC Gamer gave it a 89%. They praised the multiplayer and audio, but criticized the visuals and poor driving mechanics. Gamespot gave it a 8.5 and praised the audio, gameplay and online multiplayer aspects. Midnight Club: Los Angeles was well received by critics upon release. GameRankings gave it a score of 83% for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, while Metacritic gave it 83/100 for both platforms as well. It received "generally positive" scores from 1UP.com, Eurogamer, 1UP. eccc085e13
